in patients area windsor Each patient and family referred to Thames Hospicecare is involved in deciding the best form of treatment alongside the medical and nursing team.

It may be the Out-Patient services provide the best treatment, or any one of our other services such as Hospice at Home, Community Services at THc Ascot or Therapy services.

The medical team works on an individual basis to ensure that patients are aware of the treatment options and are able to make an informed decision. The comfortable, purpose built unit, in Windsor has en suite facilities Windsor rear gardens and access to television and telephones.

Families and friends are more than welcome at any time. Sometimes patients return home during the day returning to stay overnight. The aim is to make patients and families feel comfortable, safe and in control of their treatment.

The average stay is around 11 days with many patients returning home, continuing to access other services as needed. We cannot cure an illness but we can help people to live a better life with it.

Three main types of admission are offered:

  • Symptom Control: An admission planned to alleviate symptoms through medical intervention, usually between one and two weeks in duration.

  • Planned Respite Care: For up to two weeks, enabling both cared for and carers to have some time off and return refreshed. Bookable in advance.

  • End of Life Care: Specialiast palliative care nursing to help patients live their lives well, right up to the end of life and offering support to families and carers too.
